More than a year has passed since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out globally. A lot has changed. Our normal ways of living before now seem like a luxury. 


As you may remember, we launched this project on June 25th last year. It's been almost 8 months since the project launched. 


We want to take this opportunity to offer our sincere apology for all the delays you have experienced thus far, and thank you for hanging in there with us. 🙏


Developing the next generation face mask to ensure better safety and protection for everyone — has been our vision ever since we launched UVMask on Kickstarter. With tremendous support from all of you, we are now bringing this dream to life, together! 


Each and every one of you is not only a backer but also a co-creator, offering us the vital funding and support, as well as ideas and feedback to make this project happen. 


We realize that many of you share our vision, and see UVMask as a necessary solution to the current crisis, as well as any future threats. That’s what keeps us up at night and keeps us going during the day.  


And so when our first backers began receiving their UVMask Lites, we were blown away by their response! That’s right — over 4,000 UVMask Lites were shipped and arrived at their new homes in the past weeks. We compiled a short video from some of our backers:

We are fixing some of the issues you've raised

As with practically every campaign on Kickstarter — where people like you, our backers, help to create something groundbreaking — we have had our fair share of setbacks. 


With less than half a year to bring a product from our labs to the market, during the pandemic, we had limited time and resources to thoroughly test the silicone cushion's airtight fit on all types of faces. Although we have engineered the cushions based on NIOSH anthropometric databases of the US population and conducted internal tests on more than 100 different people across various regions and ethnic groups, it still was brought to our attention that the initial two sizes, size S and X did not provide a consistent airtight fit for some users, especially amongst the people with a higher nose bridge and/or a larger face.  


Based on your feedback, our team immediately acknowledged the problems and went back to the drawing board to develop a new size – size XL. Here's a preview of the size XL cushion: 


Our team is currently testing the prototype of the new size XL cushion with 100+ users, especially among the people with a higher nose bridge, before we start tooling for mass production.


How do I get the new Size XL cushion?  

If you are experiencing a fitting issue with your current cushions, you are eligible for a FREE replacement of the size XL cushion once it's ready for shipment. We estimate that the new size XL will be available in 6 weeks' time. We will send out an online request form for those who need the new XL size in a few week's time. 


In the meantime, you can try the following tips to improve and test your airtight fit: 

Filter mount issue  

Although quite rare, we were also made aware that some backers had issues with securing the filter pads in the filter mount. Our filters are designed and produced with high precision. If installed correctly, our filter should provide a reliable airtight seal, when properly placed in the mount. That said, we do realize the current design is more prone to human errors, thus creating potential air leakage. 


Our team is currently working on a filter mount insert add-on to reduce possible human errors and ensure a reliable filter seal at all times. The add-on will also be available for free in a few weeks for those who need them.

UVMask Shipping Update


After a few months of sleepless nights, we are happy to announce that — the first batch of 500+ UVMask units, is already on the planes to our backers! ✈️📦 


We are now back to shipping at full-speed, with approx 500+ orders being shipped daily, throughout the next few weeks. We know what you’re thinking… what if you experience a silicone cushion fit issue when you receive your UVMask(s)? 


Since the majority of backers will not experience fit issues, we did not want to hold up shipping and let you wait even more weeks. That's why we want to ship all the UVMasks out to you as soon as possible. If you indeed experience fit issues, please note the fit issues will mostly impact your exhale, as UVMask has a forced-air fan system that provides positive airflow. This means the risk for yourself is minimal. However, your exhale air may indeed leak out unfiltered without a perfect seal, in which case, try the seal improvement technique we shared above, and request an XL size cushion when it's available.   


How do I know my UVMask is shipped? 


We will send you an automated email notification with a tracking code once your rewards are shipped. Please note if you haven't received a tracking code yet, please refrain from emailing our support team as we are currently experiencing a very high volume of inquiries.

FAQs: 


How long does it take once my package is shipped?

Based on our experience with the shipping of UVMask Lite, you should receive your UVMask in about 2-3 week's time for North America and Europe once a tracking code is provided to you.


What will be shipped?

Anything outstanding (minus UVMask Lites, filters, and accessories that you received already or are in the process of being sent). Anything you backed on Kickstarter, together with all the add-ons you chose on BackerKit.


I got my tracking code, but it hasn't updated for quite some time?

The customs clearance time may vary for each shipment, so it is normal that your tracking code does not get updated for up to a week's time. This does not mean that your package is not moving. The tracking information will be updated as soon as the customs clearance is complete and the package is on its way to your doorstep. 


I already got my vaccine, can I request a refund?

We are glad that you got your vaccine, however, this can not be a reason for a refund. Kickstarter is not a store, but a crowdfunding platform, where your contribution as a backer goes into product development, tooling/molding, component sourcing, and mass production. Since our project has already reached the shipment stage, refunds are no longer available.  

As previously mentioned, we developed this mask to protect people during this pandemic and any other future threat. We are dedicated to creating a high-quality product to protect you and your loved ones. So, it will help keep people safe against more than just COVID-19.


What about returns?

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we no longer offer refunds for items purchased on or after Feb 10th, 2021 due to the health and safety risks posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the nature of the products sold. 


That said, for backers who pledged prior to Feb 10th, 2021, our original return policy stands, as stated in the FAQ dated July 29th, 2020.


'If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, you have 30 calendar days from the date of delivery to request a refund and return the mask  (return shipping costs not included).'


How do I request a return and what are the conditions? 


If you are not satisfied with your product for a particular reason, we may, if approved, process a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount, of the purchase price of the product(s) purchased, less the original shipping and handling costs, including a deduction of any fees charged by payment processors, banking institutions and Kickstarter, provided that such request is made by the purchaser within thirty (30) days following the delivery with valid proof of purchase. No requests for refunds, store credit, product exchange or discounts may be made until the products have been delivered. However, any refunds, store credit, product exchange or discounts, whether full or partial, issued will be granted at our sole and absolute discretion without reason. A request for a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount for any reason does not guarantee that we will grant a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount.


If a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount is approved by us, it will be processed within 180 days of our confirmation that your refund, store credit, product exchange or discount has been approved. If a return is made, then a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount will not be processed until after we have received the product in its original packaging and seal. If the original packaging and seal is open or broken, then a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount will not be issued.


If a return is approved, then all shipping and handling costs for the return will be your responsibility. If an exchange or store credit is processed, then all shipping all handling costs for the shipping of the new product will be your responsibility. If a refund or discount is issued, it will be credited back to the same payment method used to make the original purchase.


We reserve the right to provide store credit or discount in place of a refund or to reject, in full or in part, any request for a refund, store credit, product exchange or discount entirely.

Fitting Issues with High Nose Bridge 👃🏻

As more backers are receiving their UVMask Lite, some backers have made us aware of a fitting issue with the silicone pad especially for backers with higher nose bridges. 


UVMask and UVMask Lite were designed with the headforms database of a nationwide anthropometric survey of 3,997 subjects, conducted by CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). On top of that, UVMask and UVMask Lite prototypes were tested by multiple user groups in North America and Europe. Further beta testing has been planned to further improve the silicone face form design. With that, we want to assure everyone that your opinion is very important for us.

I Have a Fitting Issue, What's Should I Do?🧐

If you are experiencing fitting issues with your UVMask Lite, please follow the steps below:


  • First, check if you are wearing your UVMask Lite correctly. See this instructional video: https://youtu.be/YB89fHjI9a4

  • We are actively working on an additional size 'XL' specifically designed for high nose bridge users. These will be available at a later date, and free for those experiencing fitting issues.

🥸 Wearing UVMask and UVMask Lite with Glasses/Beard

Please make sure your glasses are not sandwiched in between the silicone pad and your face, instead, the mask should sit lower than the glasses and closer to the chin.


Also please bear in mind that having a beard might affect the overall seal of the mask. Typically masks should be worn without a beard for the best fit. See the CDC recommendations here.


😷 How To Adjust For a Better Seal

One of the most common reasons your UVMask/UVMask Lite might not achieve a 100% airtight seal is because of the way the silicone pad is positioned and how tight the straps are fastened.


Please keep in mind that your UVMask does NOT need to cover the chin. As long as the silicone has full contact with your face it is a good fit. See this instructional video: https://youtu.be/YB89fHjI9a4


UVMask and Add-Ons Shipment Update✈️

Now that the battery certifications have been approved, we are ready to start UVMask general shipment. With the reported high nose bridge fit issues, we will start with small batches of beta testing shipments first to cover these areas: 

  • Batch #1: Hong Kong small beta test group (start shipment today) 
  • Batch #2: EU and US/Canada volunteer beta test group (start early next week)
  • Batch #3: General shipment for non-high nose bridge backers (start next week)
  • Batch #4: High nose bridge/large face backers (estimated to start shipment in March)

In our next update, we will be providing an updated measuring guide for nose-bridge measurement, with a survey, so you can choose between batch #3 and #4.

If you don’t see any movement yet, please keep in mind customs clearance can take up to 10 days, so please keep checking the link.

Sometimes, the tracking information will not appear right away, due to the fact that there’s often a lag between when the package has been sent out and when the tracking information becomes available, however, it will eventually show up.


🤷‍♂️ UVMask Lite: The Tracking Page Says "Delivered," However I Have Not Received The Mask Yet

Don't panic. Does your neighbor have it? Does the concierge have it?


In some cases, local postal services such as USPS may also mark a package as delivered prior to the delivery, in order to make delivery time look better. If you do not receive your package within 3 days after it's marked as delivered, please let us know: [email protected]

We have already locked ALL BackerKit Surveys in preparation for the shipment. That means you will not be able to make any changes to your shipping address or pledge details by yourself.

What add-ons were shipped with UVMask Lite?

We have only shipped UVMask Lite with UM95 and UM99 filters. All other add-ons including velcro straps, hard case, color shells, and more, will be shipped with regular UVMask.

We've got some cool news to share with you, including a UVMask shipping update and production video footage.


Count Down: UVMask Production and Shipping

We know many of you are eager to receive UVMasks and better protect yourself and your loved ones from the new normal. We are super grateful for your support and patience throughout this whole time! This means huge for us.


Our manufacturing team has been working around the clock during Christmas and New Year for this very moment. We are excited to announce we've successfully passed the pre-production and mass production stages. All certifications required for shipping will also be approved in the coming weeks. This means in a few weeks, as promised, we will start shipping out your UVMasks!


Here's a preview of what's in your UVMask box 🔥:


Here is what to expect...

  • Fulfillment will begin at the end of January 2021 (the last week of Jan). The delivery could take a while depending on where you live; 
  • As you may understand, we won't be able to send 15,000 orders all at once. We will ship in batches daily until all orders are shipped out;
  • Shipping order depends on a couple of factors, such as region, backer number, and order content;
  • Tracking codes will also be sent out in batches directly to your email;
  • We will post an update shortly after UVMask orders start to ship with the latest details and information on how you can track your orders;

In a week, we will close all the completed surveys on Backerkit. That means you can only make changes and updates in your response and shipping address until that date.

Why do we need to do that? Locking down the surveys and addresses allows us to get into the next stage - shipping.


🛍️ Can I upgrade my pledge level to get more masks?

Yes, that way you'll be able to save on shipping costs AND get more filters!

You can change or upgrade your pledge from inside the BackerKit Survey on the first screen you'll see by hitting "Switch your pledge level":

🛒 I have added funds to my pledge for add-ons, how should I select them?

Once you answer all the survey questions, you will be redirected to the screen with the available Add-ons.

Simply select the one that you initially intended to get and click on the "Add to Cart" button. You can select multiple items too by increasing the total item count.

The amount in your Credit Remaining will decrease. You can also select from over 20 add-ons and add them to your pledge as well.


📍 Can I change my shipping address before shipping?

Yes, you'll be able to do so before we lock the surveys prior to shipping. We'll send a final reminder before the deadline approaches.


⏰ How long do I have to complete the survey?

We advise you to complete it ASAP after receiving it so we can finalize our logistics and production plans. We will lock the surveys in about one month from now, so you still have time to finish it until then.


🙌 I made a “Pledge without a reward” for a specific amount, how do I proceed?

1. Open the email you used to register for Kickstarter find your Backerkit survey

2. Hit on “Switch your pledge level” on the initial page



3. Select the respective reward that you'd like to get

4. Proceed to select your sizes and color

5. On the final page add the respective add-ons

6. Finalize the survey

I Didn't Get My Survey🕵️‍♂️

Don't panic. 😊

If you haven’t received your survey, there are several things you can do to troubleshoot:


  • Double-check the e-mail on file with Kickstarter - Often users have old e-mails still tied to their accounts (Particularly if you authenticate through Facebook).
     
  • To make sure that emails from BackerKit don't get caught in your spam filter, add to your address book.  Avoid marking BackerKit e-mails as spam.
     
  • Check your spam filters/archived e-mails. Subject lines to look for: Response Needed -- Get your reward for Project Name or Reminder -- Response needed to deliver your reward for Project Name
     

[Important] 🍎 Apple ID Backers – Update Your Email

Backers who have pledged to the campaign using their Apple ID but haven't completely set up their Apple Pay account (linking their email address to their Apple Wallet) will have issues receiving their emails from BackerKit.

Those backers have a @[email protected] email address and will need to reach out to us to update your email address.

UVMask Lite Currently Shipping✈️ 

Have you ordered UVMask Lite? Great news for you! As you read this update, your UVMask Lite is being shipped.


We expect to ship most UVMask Lite orders by January 22nd. The tracking codes will be automatically sent to your emails.


We ship by air, so the transit itself is fast. As we have backers from all continents, we can't tell exactly when your package will land at your local post office or doorstep. We genuinely wish we could provide the estimation. However, there are a few other dependencies such as customs clearance, which do vary quite a bit, so we can not say definitively how long it will take. It can be anywhere from 4-5 days to up to 10 days for the entire delivery process.


What's being shipped with UVMask Lite? 

Currently, we are shipping UVMask Lite with ALL FFP2/FFP3 filters. If you have ordered other accessories, don't worry, they will be shipped with your general UVMask orders in a few weeks. 


I've ordered UVMask Lite as part of my UVMask pledge, will it be shipped? 

Yes. If you have UVMask Lite as part of your original pledge, your UVMask Lite, and all add-on filters (except the ones in the UVMask package) are being shipped first as a split order.
